We will leave our office at 9.30 a.m. Today we will ride 240 km (7 Hrs ) on secondary roads. Some parts dirt roads and some parts asphalt. On the way we stop for lunch in Atocha. We drive down through temperate valleys to the small town of Tupiza, at an altitude of 2,900 mts. A charming place with a warm climate and fantastic views of the red mountains .Here we have dinner and spend the night in a hostel.

We leave Tupiza at 8.00 a.m. and we will visit Quebrada de Palala which has spectacular red formations that resemble needles reaching 4200m high. 15 Km from that point is El Sillar or Valley of the Moon, where, due to earth erosion, the landscape has shapes like a moon landscape, showing peaks and craters.
Next stop, we arrive at Nazarenito, a small gold producing village and then onto Chilcobija, the deepest antimony mine in the world. The landscape in this area is dry and you can usually see condors flying up above. No lunch only snacks on route. Dinner in the hostel.
We spend the night in San Pablo de Lípez (4660 m.)

We will leave early at 7.00a.m., after approximately half an hour, we will reach the abandoned town of San Antonio del Nuevo Mundo, an old gold mining town. Continue to the Torreon, an area with much erosion showing volcanic rocks. On our way we pass through the small towns as Quetena Chico (4140m.) and Quetena Grande (4190m.).Past Laguna Hedionda and onto Lagoon Salada. Here we will take our lunch and bath in the warm thermal pool. Back on the road to the Sol de Mañana. Here there sulphurous geysers and hot bubbling mud pools. We now head north to Laguna Colarada.
Its brilliant red color is due to the algae pigments, clorofitas and fine sediments at the bottom of the lagoon. Here we can see many kinds of flamingos. In the surroundings areas there is also 40 kinds of other birds. We have dinner and spend the night in a basic hostel.

Day 4 - LAGUNA COLARADA - SAN JUAN
